might as well post something here
Funny that, how you can post something online and it never goes away. I once posted the most riduculously vitriolic letter here, which I eventually deleted. It was something I would consider embarrassing but have to laugh at too. So you can imagine my surprise when one day when I was bored and decided to google myself (you know, as one does) and there on the second page was the letter! Someone had copied it to a message board with a link to this blog! Horrifying! Somehow I had imagined that no one was reading it. Even though there is a tracker that shows how many people read it everyday.
Well this story has a somewhat happy ending. Even though I can’t change the fact that who knows how many other people had already read it, I contacted the poster and asked him nicely to take it down. Which he very sweetly did. Awwww. Kind of warms the cockles, no? But seriously, that was really cool of him. We don’t often get second chances.
About six months ago I checked in here and there was a message from one of my best friends. We’ve known each other since we were eleven and had always kept in touch. I was even in her wedding. Somehow I lost her number about a year ago, and had changed mine and my e-mail so was somewhat unreachable. This was before everyone I’ve ever known ever was on facebook, so she googled me and found this little blog and that is how we got back in touch. I think I will call her tomorrow.

why pluto got demoted: he’s really a dwarf
A dwarf planet is a celestial body that is in orbit around the Sun, has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes hydrostatic equilibrium (that is, a near-spherical shape), but has not cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit of planetesimals and is not a satellite.

gavin rossdale: good samaritan
On April 25, 2004, I was leaving the parking lot of the Starbuck’s at Highland and Franklin when I got into a car accident.
I was having some difficulty getting through to 911, when what to my wondering eyes should appear like a mirage? Why, it was Gavin Rossdale, of the band Bush! I’m not sure if Bush is even a band anymore, but Mr. Rossdale was the perfect good samaritan.
He called 911 (I’m convinced celebrities get their own special emergency number–like a VIP 911 or bat phone) and waited nearly 20 minutes with us until the paramedics arrived. One of the girls in the other car had a cut on her leg and the airbag had chafed her face pretty badly, so they took her to Cedars for a look-see.
Through yet another coincidence, I ended up at Gwen & Gavin’s for New Year’s that year and got to thank him for being such a great guy. As for Gwen, well it was fairly obvious that she had “it” even when she was playing at Spanky’s in Riverside as a teenager. Guys worshipped her even then. And don’t get me started on Kingston. Too effing cute is what I say.

dorothy parker: badass bitch
Dorothy Parker (1893-1967)
“Excuse my dust.”
When told she was very outspoken: “Outspoken by whom?”
“I don’t know much about being a millionaire, but I bet I’d be darling at it.”
“I only require three things of a man. He must be handsome, ruthless and stupid.”
“If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to.”
“Four be the things I’d been better without: Love, curiosity, freckles, and doubt.”
“Then if my friendships break and bend, There’s little need to cry The while I know that every foe Is faithful till I die.”
“That would be a good thing for them to cut on my tombstone: Wherever she went, including here, it was against her better judgement.”
“Misfortune, and recited misfortune especially, may be prolonged to the point where it ceases to excite pity and arouses only irritation.”
“On writing humor: There must be a magnificent disregard of your reader, for if he can’t follow you, there is nothing you can do about it.
On writing humor: There must be courage; there must be no awe. There must be criticism, for humor, to my mind, is encapsulated in criticism. There must be a disciplined eye and a wild mind.”
“On Isadora Duncan: There was never a place for her in the ranks of the terrible, slow army of the cautious. She ran ahead, where there were no paths.”
“Well, there are always those who cannot distinguish between glitter and glamour…the glamour of Isadora Duncan came from her great, torn, bewildered, foolhardy soul.”
“Razors pain you; Rivers are damp; Acids stain you; And drugs cause cramp. Guns aren’t lawful; Nooses give; Gas smells awful; You might as well live.”

built to spill…
You were wrong when you said
Everything’s gonna be alright
You were right when you said
All that glitters isn’t gold
You were right when you said
All we are is dust in the wind
You were right when you said
We are all just bricks is the wall
And when you said manic depression’s
A frustrating mess
You were right when you said
You can’t always get what you want
You were right when you said
It’s a hard rain’s gonna fall
You were right when you said
We’re still running
Against the wind
And life goes on after
The thrill of living is gone
You were right when you said
This is the end
